While the modern world is increasingly more dependent on technology, individual consumers are no different. Businesses and organizations are taking note, including the printing industry, to ensure that they are able to connect with changing customer needs.

According to a recent report by World Bank, 75 percent of the world’s population has access to a mobile phone. While fewer than 1 billion mobile subscriptions were active in 2000, there are now six billion, and last year alone, users downloaded more than 30 billion applications.

Canon USA has paid attention, and created mobile printing and scanning applications for Blackberry smartphones, iPhones and iPads. The new solution is set to easily integrate the phones and tablets with select Canon devices, allowing customers to print emails, PDFs and photos, according to a press release from Canon.

In addition, individuals can scan a hard copy document to a mobile device and remotely manage Canon multifunction printer (MFP) features, such as paper size, scan resolution and color versus black and white.

“The Canon Direct Print and Scan for Mobile application allows our customers to manage their printing needs on the go,” Sam Yoshida, vice president and general manager of Marketing, Business Imaging Solutions Group for Canon, said in the release. “The user’s workflow process is streamlined through instant access to important documents along with the ability to utilize Canon’s renowned printing technology for high-quality results.”

Mobile printing is one of the latest connections between the digital and printed world. However, proper organization and presentation of the finished product will also be necessary for customers.

For example, custom divider tabs will allow individuals to keep printed documents filed in a way that is easy to read the displayed labels. While scanning and printing files is important for most businesses, so is the ability to keep the finished product organized for easier access. Companies desire simplicity along with efficiency, something that custom presentation binders will be able to give them.
